The Poltimore Inn is situated on North Molton on the edge of Exmoor National Park. Exmoor has incredibly low levels of light pollution and has some of the darkest skies in the UK. It has been designated as an International Dak Sky Reserve by the International Dark Sky Association.
At the Poltimore Inn, we’re stargazing mad and very proud to be have been recognised as an accredited Dark Sky Friendly business and Dark Sky Discovery Hub by Exmoor National Park Authority. Behind the pub we have a purpose built observatory with lots of astronomy equipment, detached lodges with telescopes and a large garden with open views to the rear. We also run stargazing events and presentations throughout the year.
LODGES WITH TELESCOPES – We have a total of 10 lodges Rooms in the grounds of the pub, with 5 of the rooms have great views for the telescopes. There is an amazing open view of the dark skies above and reaching towards the south. Each lodge room sleeps 2 people. To book a lodge follow this link

PURPOSE-BUILT OBSERVATORY – Our purpose-built observatory has a sliding roof which can be moved to allow use of the many telescopes and equipment inside. There is also dedicated outside area next to the observatory. The Observatory can be booked by individuals and groups for the whole evening. It is suitable for groups of up to 20 plus people. It has it’s own facilities including toilet and kettle, which make it the ideal place to book for your own stargazing session.
